India narrowly avoided defeat in a T20 match against Japan, considered their weakest opponent.

In the lone T20 match—reduced to five overs per side due to rain in the Japanese city of Sano—India won the toss and elected to bat first.

The Indian team suffered an early setback when Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a duck on the very first ball. In the second over, the other opener, Sanju Samson, also departed after scoring 9 runs.

Despite having a formidable batting lineup, the Indian team struggled to score just 32 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted five overs.

Surprisingly, only two fours were hit during the Indian innings, while the Japanese bowlers did not allow the Indian batters to hit a single six.

Captain Shreyas Iyer was the top scorer with 16 runs, while Ishan Kishan was dismissed for 3 runs.

For Japan, Charlie Hinze claimed two wickets, while Ibrahim Takahashi and Benjamin Ito-Davis took one wicket each.

Chasing the target, Japan scored 30 runs for the loss of three wickets in the allotted five overs, falling short by just two runs.

Captain Fleming (12), Ibrahim Takahashi (4), and Yamamoto-Lake (1) were dismissed, while Benjamin Ito-Davis (9) and Shirai-Patmore (2) remained not out.
