Joe Root breaks world record for most catches in Test cricket
England Test captain Joe Root has broken Australian cricketer Steve Smith's world record for most catches in Test cricket.
Joe Root made history in the first Test match against Pakistan at Headingley by becoming the fielder (excluding wicketkeeper) to take the most catches in Test cricket.
Joe Root surpassed Australian star Steve Smith to take the record for most catches as a fielder in the history of Test cricket.
Root broke Steve Smith's record by taking a fast catch off Azan Owais off Archer at leg slip during the second innings of the first Test against Pakistan at Headingley on Friday.
This was Joe Root's 219th catch as a fielder in Test cricket. Smith has taken 218 catches in his Test career.
It should be noted that England defeated Pakistan by an innings and 103 runs in the first Test to take a 0-1 lead in the 3-match series.
Pakistan started the second innings with a deficit of 238 runs, but Pakistan's batting failed completely in the second innings as well.
The entire team was bundled out for 135 runs in the 38th over and Pakistan suffered a defeat by an innings and 103 runs.
